my wife's computer uses Spectrum webmail and Thunderbird to access her email. She uses Thunderbird all the time. Last night Spectrum did something so her password was deleted. We finally got webmail up and working with a new password, however, when she tries to access Thunderbird a message comes up and says to log into mail.brighthouse.com and put in the password. We tried this several times and the same message comes up without letting us use Thunderbird. Sorry we are seniors and this is driving us crazy,as my wife loves TBird.

I created a folder with a name that has diacritics used in the Lithuanian language: Šarūnas

Thunderbird will not let me move emails from another folder into this folder. This fails both with drag and drop and with using the right-click menu.

When I created a folder without diacritics (Sarunas) the emails can be moved into the folder.

Letters with diacritics are an essential part of spelling and not having them can significantly change the meaning of the words. What do I need to do in order to use folder names with diacritics?

On Windows 11 Pro (latest updates) desktop, I use Thunderbird (latest update) to send/receive email. Usually, Norton 360 (latest update) VPN must be turned off to received emails. I say "usually," because sometimes it works with VPN on. Is there a way to receive emails without needing to usually turn off VPN? What I have been trying hasn't worked. Thanks, if you can help.

I'm switching from Outlook to Thunderbird Nebula 128.6.0 and I am attempting the import of my "Contacts" from Outlook into Thunderbird "Address Book" via .csv file. My contacts from Outlook are a mess as over the years I did not always enter them by manually as a field at a time. Sometimes the address entry was pasted into Outlook or via a download and this produces a .csv with a poor data structure. There is no way I would expect to get a decent data transfer from such a jumble so in an effort to supply Thunderbird with a half decent .csv file I decided to edit the Outlook exported .csv to match a Thunderbird .csv export. I made up a new Address Book in Thunderbird with a few names and addresses and exported it to a .csv. Unfortunately when I look into the exported file some data does not appear to have been exported. For example I only have one phone number exported under 'Work Phone' although there are two or more listings in my made up contact in the address book. The same with email addresses, only the first two listings are exported under 'Primary Email' and 'Secondary Email' although I have more in the made up contact in the Thunderbird Address Book. I wonder if anyone else has undertaken this task and can share any tips for the best way to approach this, or maybe tell me where Thunderbird is putting the data that it does not export? I note that Thunderbird structures the phone numbers as 'Work Phone', 'Home Phone', 'Fax Number', 'Pager Number', but the "New Contact" screen does not have any of these input options. I'm a bit stumped at the moment so any ideas or help would be most appreciated. Regards. Greg

The extension ConfirmBeforeDelete is extremely useful. It has saved me not only from accidentally deleting messages, but also from dragging and moving folders when I didn't intend to.

I recently had to manually recover from deleting 20 messages in a search window after I had accidentally hit the delete key (while I thought my cursor was up in one of my search fields).

Really, that functionality should be a built-in feature in Thunderbird.

The latest version of ConfirmBeforeDelete is 1.9.3, released Nov. 20, 2023. Compatible with Thunderbird 115.*

What did that extension need to be compatible with Thunderbird 128+? In other words, what change(s) in Thunderbird broke it? Would the fix be something easy or will it require more significant changes?

I tried to contact the author last October (even offered to gather some donations), but have not heard back.

It looks like there was already at least one person interested in helping. Thread on github:

Thunderbird email stopped receiving new emails about mid-afternoon two days ago. Now the only way to received new email is to turn off security. Outgoing emails are unaffected.

When attempting to receive emails following security re-initiation, the following message is displayed: "The certificate for Wowway.com is not valid for that server. . . ."

Wowway (WOW!) cannot help.

Please keep response as non-technical as possible, as I am a novice.

Thunderbird 128.6.0esr (64 bit) can obtain access to my Google Calendar and Contacts but not to email. This is a clean installation on a brand new Windows 11 computer. I have reinstalled Thunderbird three times, deleted saved passwords, deleted only the SMTP and IMAP saved passwords (preserving OAuth2 passwords), deleted Thunderbird's access in Gmail security settings to force it to re-request access, followed every instruction on every forum and help page I can find, but Thunderbird refuses to send and receive mail. Thunderbird finds the correct configuration and sets it up (correct ports, IMAP, SMTP, correct servers, OAuth2, etc.) I used my Gmail address and the same password as I use for webmail.

I am presently using Outlook for Gmail because it connected immediately using the same credentials as I am trying with Thunderbird. When I delete access permission in Gmail security settings, then add Gmail to Thunderbird again, it prompts for access to Contacts and Calendar but not to mail (one time it flashed a screen saying it could not because Java is not enabled in my web browser--but Java is enabled on both my default browser, Edge, and on Chrome; the page that came up appears to be some internal browser in Thunderbird).

The attached images show the configurations for IMAP server, the SMTP server, and that the saved passwords contain two OAuth2 URLs, one for contacts and the other for the calendar, but nothing for mail.

I have been using Thunderbird for years, and have a massive archive of emails in it, would really like to use it as my email client rather than Outlook. Installation and configuration has never been this difficult. Does anybody have any thoughts on what to do next?

I have reset my password several times both in the pop up dialog box in my mail account and in the "pass" box within settings. The password is correct as I am able to access my mail on the Comcast server via FireFox and also on my iPhone. Each time I reentered the password, I have rebooted the PC.

We had the same issue with my wife's account initially, but hers is now working!! Used the same method with hers.

Both were working fine this morning. To my knowledge I had not made any changes to Thunderbird.

I need help troubleshooting some inconsistent behavior with S/MIME.

Platform: Oracle Linux 7.9 Thunderbird Version: 128.6.1esr Smart Card: Identrust ECA Medium Assurance Token

Background: - Previously, I've used this card to sign and encrypt email. It is definitely associated with the email address I'm trying to use it for. - Thunderbird WILL let me use this smart card to decrypt emails that I previously sent to myself. Thunderbird reports that the emails were also signed (accurate), and that the CA/trust chain is valid. - OpenSC and PCSC are both installed and appear to be happy.

Inconsistent Behavior: - Thunderbird will not allow me to add my personal certificate (smart card) for S/MIME signing, or encryption. The certificate manager says it cannot find a certificate associated with my email address. Drafting a new email does not offer options to Sign, or Encrypt. - Device Manager shows that the smart card's status is 'Logged In' (pin was entered correctly) - Thunderbird is using the smart card to decrypt and validate the signature of emails I previously sent to myself. (When I try to open these emails WITHOUT my smart card inserted, I cannot decrypt these emails. If I try to open the emails before entering my pin, I get prompted to enter my pin.)

So I can decrypt emails with this card. Emails signed with this card are valid. Thunderbird can use this card for decryption, and reports no issue with the certificate->email address relationship. But when I try to add the card for signing and encrypting new emails, Thunderbird fails to find it, or fails to associate it with my email address.

I suspect that the error reported is inaccurate/unhelpful, but I don't know where to go from here.
